Manufacturers of high quality silica flour/sand

The Index Group purchased the processing plant situated at Heybridge in Tasmania in mid 1991 and commenced operating it to process high quality silica flours and sands in January of 1992. The Heybridge plant was running smoothly by June of 1992. Since that time IMP Silica has consistently produced silica products of the highest quality for supply to a growing export market.

The production of a dry 200-mesh product, free of organic contamination and respirable dust was one priority achieved when 40/75 PG material was successfully produced in February 1994.

In 1997 the Index Group was given a special distinction in the Business Queensland ‘Exporter’ of the year award and in 1998 Index Mineral Processors achieved the Tasmanian Mineral Exporter of the year award.

Index Mineral Processors upgraded the Heybridge plant in 2006 to meet the growing demand for silica products and maintain the quality that met our customers’ tight specifications. The plant expanded to allow production in excess of 40,000 tpa of high grade products especially in the LCD and TFT glass applications as the export market continues to grow.

To complement the plant upgrade, IMP verified its quality assurance processes by gaining quality endorsement to AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000 on 6 March 2006. This was followed in 2008 with IMP being certified complying with AS/NZS ISO 1400:200 for its environmental management systems.
